A mega slide, 64m in length, takes you to the subterranean salt lake. Finally you board the miners’ train which will transport you back into the daylight. A visit to the Salt Mine is an ideal family outing, regardless of the weather, and will bring out the explorer in parents and kids alike!

The Hallstätter high mountain valley – The cradle of humankind!

The Hallstatt high mountain valley is part of the Upper Austrian Regional Exhibition 2008 and will be adapted to suit visitors’ needs. After a short and comfortable ride with salt mine train visitors can board the 14 m high panorama lift and then reach the observation bridge. The new bridge links the „Rudolfturm“restaurant and terrace with the accessible show grave and spans the entire high mountain valley. On the “Path through the Ages” visitors walk across the world famous burial site and even have the opportunity of attending a Celtic burial ceremony. The exhibition in the “Rudolfsturm” is dedicated to the life and work of Johann Georg Ramsauer, the mine manager and excavator. In the entrance building of the salt mine the social history of life in the mines is displayed and shows just how much hardship the miners had to endure during their toil in the 19th century.
Although the salt mine is not part of the 2008 Regional Exhibition, a visit here truly “deepens” the understanding of what mining life was like during this period.

For a small fee audioguides will be available at the ticket office from April 2008. The audioguides provide foreign visitors with information about the various parts of the exhibition (above ground) in 7 languages.
