The giant holes and domes, dubbed King Artus Dome, Parzifal Dome and Tristan Dome, are a fabulous adventure to see, with frosted ice walls and icicles dripping from the ceiling.

And with rushing walls of frozen cascades and 30,000 m³ of blue ice. In some parts, i.e. in the Tristan Dome, the sheet of ice is 25 meters thick!

The region around Dachstein Massif is riddled with geological oddities including caves, caverns, and glaciers whose ice never melts. How come?
The ice is formed by streams of air that are moving into the cave in the winter and diverging out of the cave in the summer.

What’s more, additional ice forms when spring snowmelt and rain seep into the cave from above. Smooth walls, stalactites, stalagmites, domes, frozen waterfalls, and other ice formations have shaped a crystalline world that deserves a 5-star rating on any list of natural tourist attractions.
