Museum of the Town of Bad Ischl

Since 1989 the Museum of the Town of Bad Ischl has been accommodated in the former salt manufacture along the esplanade (1882 – 1982: Hotel Austria).

There the Emperor Franz-Josef and Elisabeth “Sissi” celebrated their engagement in 1853. Today the museum holds historic, cultural and traditional collections depicting the development of the town of Bad Ischl, the importance of the production of salt for the town and the town’s rise to a spa town and imperial summer residence. Traditional objects, models of Traunschifffahrt boats, works of art made by artists on summer vacation and the East-Asia collection by J. Sarsteiner complete the museum’s program.
