From the inn "Gasthof zur Wacht" to the mountain station of the Katrin cable car

The Facts

From the signpost next to a small bridge on the left side of the inn we go 400 m upward on a street along a brook to a farm. Before we cross the brook again, we leave the path to the left at a signpost with several boards . For about 1 hour we go through the woods up to a signpost (013°32'39 “O - 47°41'31“ N – 1010 m). By getting there we cross a logging trail three times. Now the path gets steeper. We pass a hunting lodge and after one hour walking we reach the Alpine grassland of the Ahornfeld with a splendid view of the Wolfgangsee. Now it is not far any more to the Roßkopf (013°33'18 “O - 47°40'57“ N – 1657 m) which we reach through mountain pine lanes. Descending we reach a signpost (013°33'28 “O - 47°41'01“ N – 1550 m) after 15min. Now there are two equally long possibilities. Thoose who to have no head for heights should choose the left variation, although the right way offers a very nice panoramic view. By climbing up and getting down we reach the summit of the Hainzen in 35min (013°34'00 “O - 47°41'13“ N – 1638 m). After the next 15 min we reach to a road road junction (013°34'15 “O - 47°41'20“ N – 1610 m). Those who feel still strong enough can choose the left approx. 30min longer variation to the Elferkogel (1601m) to the Katrinkreuz (1542m) and the Katrinalm. otherwise you keep right and descend to the mountain station of the Katrin cable car. Outside the hours of operation of the cable car we descend in the valley in about 1 ½-hours.
