Starting from the esplanade one hikes past the Emperor’s hunting statue and follows Soleleitungsweg trail, which is lined with resting benches. Continue in direction Lauffen, the oldest market village of the Salzkammergut area and follow Soleweg trail to a bridge, from which the village can be seen. From the bridge you can observe Wilde Lauffen river. At the time of salt shipping its rapids were dreaded. The “Maria im Schatten” pilgrimage church in Lauffen has already been chartered in the 14th century. The high altar features a Gothic Madonna statue. Also worth seeing are the Anzenaumühle open air museum and the old shooting stand. You can get back to Bad Ischl by bus or train. If you want to hike back you can walk along either shore of Traun River.
