Dammweg

...to Pfandl and back...

The Facts

Start: Hanhbaum
Length: 6,3 km
Difficulty: easy
Duration: 1,5 h
Resting possibilities: Poststüberl, Zum Pfandl

Starting from Hahnbaum landmark we cross the Kurpark in direction Kreutererbrücke bridge. Along Dammweg trail we hike in direction Pfandl past the house of Carl Michael Zierer and the Katharina Schratt Villa. The shores of Ischl River are home to numerous local woods and rare animals, like e.g. the dark-brown water-blackbird, the only European singing bird that can swim. After a one-hour hike one gets to “Maria an der Strasse” pilgrimage church, the first motorists’ church of Austria (annually on Christophorus Sunday vehicles are consecrated!). To get back to Bad Ischl we hike along Ischl river (both shores are possible) or take Elisabeth Forest Trail (theme hike on Empress Elisabeth!!!). Starting at Gasthaus Zum Pfandl (bus stop) the trail leads back to the centre of Bad Ischl through a copper beech forest and past the Calvary church.
