Starting at the Calvary in Bad Ischl, Elisabeth forest trail leads through shady mixed forests to “Gasthaus zum Pfandl” guesthouse (bus stop) in the village of Pfandl.

In 1899 Elisabeth Trail was designed by the inhabitants of Ischl to commemorate the death of the Empress, who had been murdered in Genf the year before. The festive inauguration of the 3km-long promenade trail took place on July 2, 1899.

100 years later the Elisabeth Forest Trail was newly designed with the help of the association of REGIS (Regional Development of Central Salzkammergut) and festively reopened on Sunday, June 7, 1998. The trail is part of the historic theme trails of Central Salzkammergut that have been designed by each municipality.
