The Narcissus:
The beautiful Narcissus flower that grows in abundance in lovely Ausseerland Area is commonly called "POET'S NARCISSUS" (also known as White Daffodil, "narcissicus poeticus"). This species is native to Southern Europe and can be found cultivated throughout Central Europe.
In Austria it grows in Upper Styria, in Salzkammergut, and in Lower Austria. From mid-May through late June, the lovely narcissus is in full bloom. Its abundance in the springtime and delicate fragrance so favored by both locals and visitors came to epitomize purity of heart and soul. The Ausseerland Area boasts vast fields and slopes with thousands of narcissus, their fragrance wafting far and wide…
