Kaiservilla

The most famous summer guest of Bad Ischl, Emperor Franz Joseph, spend some 60 summers in the Biedermeier villa that is located in a big garden.

The imperial village was stage of European history and for many decades, well into the 20th century, Bad Ischl has been the secret capital of the powerful Austrian-Hungarian Empire. See the originally-preserved rooms, where Empress “Sissi” Elisabeth spent her summers and where Emperor Franz Joseph ruled and started World War I with his declaration of war to Serbia in 1914 and set out his position in the “An meine Völker” manifesto. On a 45-minute long guided tour you can feel the flair of olden times and get interesting information on the life of the imperial family.

The imperial village is surrounded by the vast imperial park that is perfect for longer walks. In the park is the “Marmorschlössel”, the former teahouse of Empress Elisabeth.

The village can only be visited on guided tours.
