These spots generally are of exceptional beauty. Impressive trees, a fascinating course of a river or a striking view e.g. are the features of nature sports. It is also worth noticing the interplay of the four elements – air, earth, fire and water – on nature sports. If the four elements are well-balanced a certain harmony is the result.
HOHENZOLLER Waterfall
A nice waterfall with kettle-shaped plunge. A vantage point is nearby. Already in the time of Emperor Franz Josef this waterfall was a popular destination for VIPs.
Lauffen CALVARY
with radiation spot; A beautiful footpath takes you from the Calvary to Burgstallkogel.
RETTENBACHWILDNIS
About a 30 minutes’ walk from Bad Ischl, just past the Rasthof Rettenbachmühle. Scenic loop hike which can be extended to take up your whole day and takes you to Rettenbachalm, through expansive pasturelands to the Rettenbach gorge and on to Blaa-Alm.
The night pilgrimage to Kumitz, which takes place every September on the Sunday before St. Michael at 1:00 a.m., also leads through Rettenbachtal valley, starts in the chapel next to Rettenbachmühle guesthouse and leads past Rettenbachalm pasture – Blaa Alm pasture – Radling pass to Kumitz.
ELISABETH FOREST TRAIL
This beautiful trail starts at the Ischl Calvary. Empress Elisabeth walked this trail to “Zum Pfandl” guesthouse several times. In the 12th century salt evaporation was pursued there. Information panels are to be found along the trail.
