The Holy Florian has his saints day on the 4th of May. On the following Sunday the fire fighters celebrate this day as great day of their patron Holy Florian.
Catholics celebrate the 4th of May as Memorial Day. As Florian is the patron saint of Upper Austria children have no school that day.
Florian is the patron saint of the fire fighters (hence the term Florian-disciple for firefighters as well as the usual call sign for fire fighter vehicles is 'Florian' in combination with individual vehicle ID - in many places it is customary to hold a memorial - a "Florian Mass" in which the firefighters appear in their dress uniform)
