The Lehar Operetta festival in Bad Ischl is celebrating its 50th anniversary
The new production of Carl Zeller's all time operetta hit THE BIRD-SELLER will premiere on July 14th 2012. Featured will be two prizewinning young singers. The Austrian soprano Eva Kumpfmüller and Chinese spinto tenor Kejia Xiong will sing Count Stanislaus. Those two singers will make their debut on the Ischl operetta stage. We proudly announce that one of the stars of the Wiener Volksoper, the renowened tenor Sebastian Reinthaller, will make his debut in Bad Ischl and will perform the leading part of Adam. Theresa Grabner, who started her career in Ischl, will return to her roots and will be heard as the postgirl Christl. The renowned Austrian actors Gabriele Schuchter and Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz will add star-power to our stage. The leading team will bring new talent to our festival city: Isabella Gregor is a promising young actress and producer who has been working for the Theater in der Josefstadt, Vienna, as well as the Opera house of Zurich and the Landestheater Tyrol. She will share billing with this year’s festival orchestra conductor, the young composer and conductor Oliver Ostermann who presented the world premiere of his short operetta during the 50th anniversary jubilee season of the Lehár Festval in 2011.
Franz Lehár's operatic oeuvre GYPSY LOVE will open on July 21st after more than 30 years of absence from our festival stage. Leonard Prinsloo and Marius Burkert will team up for this production as stage director and conductor. Many of Ischl's favorites will star in this production as well as Tomaz Kovacic, another one of my students and first prizewinner of the Wiener MusikSeminar.
